“We needed OPPTA’s help & they were there for us!
With one of the busiest summers on record, facing the absence of a couple of techs for 2 weeks in order for them to complete their college course (practical class training) that was brought to a halt due to Covid19, I thought there must be an alternative. As an owner, knowing the training they had received over several months made me think the experience in the field had to equal or better what they would have learned in a lab setting. I made a few inquiries’ only to learn I would need some help if I was going to be able to keep these techs working.

In hearing our dilemma, OPPTA went to work coordinating with the college & TSSA to come up with a plan that would ensure the techs had the necessary training and yet not keep them away from their employment longer than required. Our techs returned to class to be tested on the practical requirements & were able to return to work with only missing 2 days of work. Although they still have to write their finals, the college has made arrangements for them to so on weekends.
